Enjoying the sunlight in my favorite ramp patch.

Hi! My name is Mimi, but you’ve probably already figured that out. I am a Latinx and queer artist currently based in Albany, New York. I am originally from a town in Puerto Rico called San Sebastian and moved to the continental U.S. in the summer of 2016.

From a very young age I have always loved art, animals, and nature and well into my adult life these are still the things that inspire and bring me comfort. I had been torn between choosing a career in Science or a career in Art my whole life. After an unsatisfying year of Art School in Puerto Rico, I moved to New York to pursue an education in Biology and fell in love with it almost instantly. The art I create now is heavily influenced by experiences I have had thanks to my background in Biology. This also sparked an interest in foraging and wildcrafting, which has taught me so much about the value and importance of the natural world.

I hope that through my art I can inspire you to love, appreciate, and care for our planet, as well as encourage others to enjoy the small and simple pleasures of life that we often overlook.

Studio Assistants

My girls, River and Selkie, love to wreak havoc and inject my apartment, my days, and my life with chaos. I am not sure I would have it any other way.

  • River came into my life on a warm summer day when she was only 3 weeks old and needed to be bottle fed.

She is so mighty, and so full of life. Not unlike a river.

  • “A mythical creature that resembles a seal in the water but assumes human form on land.”

Selkie is a playful, gentle, whimsical soul trapped inside a fluffy coat and icy blue eyes. I am not convinced she is from this world quite yet.

Ethics & Sustainability

All products in my shop are sourced from manufacturers that pay their workers fair wages. When conducting my initial research on this topic I noticed it was possible to make a lot of these products (stickers, prints, tote bags, etc) for very cheap if I outsourced the production to other countries with unfair labor laws. This would mean a higher profit for me, but at what cost? Sharing my art with you means nothing if I am hurting people in the process. I am committed to thoroughly researching companies before I decide to work with them.

As for packaging, I am trying to find a happy balance between keeping your products safe during transit and also choosing cost-effective, environmentally friendly materials. For now, the only single-use plastics being utilized are packing sleeves to protect products from possible water damage. When considering sustainability, plastic isn’t always the biggest culprit and a damaged package means I would need to send a replacement which ultimately produces more carbon emissions. That being said, once these plastic sleeves have run out, I plan to utilize the funds generated by the shop to invest in glassine bags. They are a better alternative than plastic since they are fully recyclable and biodegradable. Non-coated, kraft flat mailers and envelopes will be used to ship products. These mailers and envelopes have no plastic whatsoever and can be easily recycled or repurposed in the same way you would normally cardboard or paper. I still want to make your packages look beautiful and presentable, so instead of using single-use stickers to decorate, I will be using vegetable-based permanent ink and stamps to personalize your orders.

Lastly, I want you to know that I am deeply committed to fighting injustice in my personal life. I may not be the perfect activist, but I do believe we all must do what we can in whatever capacity to stand up for what’s right. This site does not condone, accept, or tolerate: racism, xenophobia, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, body shaming, or any other form of prejudice or bigotry. You are always welcome here.
